Well, I think I just mentally hyperventilated myself into thinking I was allergic. The first day I had to take double doses of penicillin, so all reactions were magnified. After two days of taking the standard dose, I'm feeling much better and I think this infection is on its way out of town.
However, I don't think I'll take the original wonder drug again. With severe penicillin allergies in the family, it's probably best to avoid it in future. I have to remember to list it when I go to the endodontist for my root canal.
I was talking to the dentist about how long I'd been going to him. He looked it up --- I've been going to him since he was just starting out and I was just into my teens. He's crowned 2 of my teeth and I've lost count of how many times he's filled my teeth. The first time I went to him I got four fillings and came out looking like a chipmunk!

I'm glad that you're ok! DON'T take penicillin again if you have allergies in your family. Slight allergies to it run in my family. My mother took it all of her life and never had a problem. Over time she developed an allergy to it without knowing. I mean you take something all of the time and are fine so why worry? One day she took one pill and within 15 minutes went into a coma. She died that night. I have never had a problem with it, but am afraid that I can develop worse allergies as I get older. It's not worth it. I pay extra money to get the alteranive antibiotics when I am sick.
glad to hear the infection is heading out of town! good luck with the rest of the ordeal!
I've moved so many times and changed dentists so many times that I wish I had a dentist who knew me for that long! It's invaluable!
